Science of Surgery

The COMPASS team were at the Science of Surgery event, aimed at showing and explaining our science to the general public. On display were games:

  • “find the fluffy ball inside the torso”: to demonstrate the challenge of using surgical tools in keyhole surgery
  • “hunt the tumour”: to demonstrate the concept of augmented reality, which is overlaying computer generated data (e.g. medical image scan data), on top of real data coming from a video camera on the tablet.
  • “what’s in the box”: to illustrate how ultrasound scanners can help us see inside the body

The best part of the day was inspiring future scientists!
